Kathmandu: The Central Children Welfare Committee has recorded as many as 583 cases of child rights violation in the fiscal year 2074/75BS.
The Committee under the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen said the violations were recorded under 11categories including child labour, rape, murder, trafficking and child marriage. With these violations, over 1,273 children were affected.
The last four months of the year witnessed maximum violations- 306, which affected 675 children. The first quarter had 96 incidents while the second quarter 181.
During a programme organized by the Paribartit Nepal on ‘harassment of children and reduction of sexual violence’ here Friday, the speakers said the local governments must be more responsible to reduce the violations of children and women’s rights.
Child rights resource person at the Committee, Rabi Gautam said the study reports and plans relating to the protection of child rights could be taken to the local levels for the coordination to minimize the violation.
Chairman of Paribartit Nepal, Mohani Lama, said the organization of racket involving children in criminal activities must be breached.
